SORRY DAY CELEBRATIONS 2010
Wreath Laying Ceremony - 26th May 2010
Once again the Lord Mayor, the Rt. Hon Campbell Newman hosted a small gathering to celebrate Sorry Day at the
King George Square Sorry Day plaque site.
Link-Up (Qld)'s Counselling Services Manager, Ms Helen Bnads, once again chaired the ceremony with special guest speaker,
ex Link-Up (Qld) Caseworker, Amy Atkins who herself is a member of the Stolen Generations.
Numbers were down for this year's event but probably due to the activities put in place by the organisations involved with the five other Brisbane Sorry Day plaque sites.
UQ Sorry Day Dinner - 28th May 2010
Link-Up (Qld) sponsored a table of ten at this year's annual UQ Sorry Day Dinner. This event is hosted by the University of Queensland's Indigenous Unit with the theme being Purple, Black & White. It was attended by LUQ Caseworker Manager, Brian Marshall and SEWB Counsellor, Mati Mistry along with Link-Up clients and Elders.
LUQ Sorry Day Breakfast - 29th May 2010
Link Up (Qld) hosted its annual Sorry Day Breakfast on a rainy, drzzly Saturday morning. Though the weather conditions were horrendous, approximately 60 people attended and feasted on breakfast fare.
The Link Up Choir, Songlines Choir and Aunty Juanita Burr sang renditions to the appreciative crowd as
Rodney Boschman closed the event with some of his own compositions.
We would wholeheartedly like to thank Cornett's SUPA IGA Head Office, Bongaree and their Deagon outlet for once again kindly donating the sausages for the breakfast.
We would also like to thank MurriWatch and MICAH for their generous donations of foodstuffs and chops, bacon and eggs
that definitely ensured an abundance and variety for all who attended.

Wreath Laying Ceremony
The Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor, the Hon. Campbell Newman, was to host the

The ceremony was attended by Link-Up staff members Aunty Kay King and new Caseworker Pamela Frith along with members of the Support Group and Charro Angeles, Case Manager from Goori Referrals who played Didgeridoo for the event.
Sorry Day Family Day

Link-Up (Qld) hosted the "Sorry Day Family Day" at Jagera Arts Centre. The day got off to a slow start with "murri time" kicking in
but ended with strong support from the community.
Link-Up(Qld) would like to thank Cornett's SUPA IGA Head Office, Bongaree and their Deagon Store for their generous donation of sausages for the event, 98.9FM radio station for supplying their mobile stage and Musgrave Park Community Centre for allowing us to stage the event on their premises.
We would also like to thank the stakeholders who attended, IFYCSS, Sisters Inside, Department of Communities & Personal Histories and the ATSI Educational Unit.
An estimated 300 people were entertained by Angus Rabbit and the T.A.B. Band, ex-Idoligenous entrant Gayle Jones, the Indigenous Choir and Mooj Fogarty & the Koorana Dancers from St Clavers College.

The Brisbane Lord Mayor, Cr. Campbell Newman, hosted the "Laying of the Wreath" ceremony at the Sorry Day Plaque in the Brisbane City Hall foyer for the commemoration of Reconciliation and the recognition of the Stolen Generation. The plaque was originally placed on the ground in King George Square. After the refurbishment of the square, the plaque will be placed above the ground between the Australian and Aboriginal flagpoles. Cr. Newman delivered a compelling speech and spoke to the invited guests. Link-Up's Amy Atkins and Linda McBride-Yuke also spoke to the gathering of the importance of Reconciliation. A special thanks to Charro Angeles, who played didgeeridoo throughout the ceremony.

UQ Sorry Day Dinner 2008
This is the fourth year running that the University of Queensland's Indigenous Division has hosted a dinner for Sorry Day and Reconciliation celebrations. Each year has seen the numbers swell to the point that next year to cater for participants, the dinner may have to move off campus. Well done Sam Watson and team!
