NGA BOW Launch

The dream of Cynthia Griffiths to create Australia's first Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander magazine came to fruitition with the official launch of GNA BOW - "Gathering of our People". With the support and guidance of Michael Williams from the UQ Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Unit, Michael Bromley, Head of School and numerous other identities from Griffith University, NIRS, SBS, 98.9FM, QUT and Batchelor University in NT along with the international students who immersed themselves into this demanding learning experience, NGA BOW was launched on 28th October 2009.
So congratulations to Editor-In-Chief, Cynthia Griffiths, Editor & Creative Director, Hayley Grieve, Project Leaders Heather Stewart & Michael Williams and Project Manager Pauline Mulligan for realising the dream and capturing it.

BTW There's a feature story on Page 22 on our very own Communications & Promotions Officer, Mick Angeles.

IDOLIGENOUS 2009

What a range of talent we are unearthing with this Talent Quest. IDOLIGENOUS was held on Friday night, the 9th October 2009 at the Musgrave Park Cultural Centre to a very appreciative audience. The level of talent in the room was so high we had to put on an extra Judge. There was a margin of 16 points between all competitors.
We'd like to thank all the talented participants, Philemon Mairu, Kalisha Soe, Alinta McBride, The Western Drummers (who travelled 11 hours from Blackwater), Aunty Margaret Armstrong, Gayle Jones and Rodney Boschman and particularly our Judges, Jim Harding, Sandra Georgiou, Julie Jones and Sam Conway who donated their time and effort to making the night a successful venture.
I personally would also like to thank staff members CEO Melisah Feeney, Team Leader Brye Marshall, Helen Bnads, Pamela Frith and Ruth Link and our invaluable volunteers whose contributions made for a smoothly run evening of entertainment.

The Western Drummers took out First Prize followed closely by Kalisha Soe and Gayle Jones. The Encouragement Award went to Philemon Mairu and every contestant received a Commemorative Medallion and an opportunity to record a couple of tracks and sit for some professional promotional photography courtesy of
MicaMusic Productions Studios, Boondall.
